Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont
At the municipal cemetery of Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont (Charleroi, Hainaut province), in the area reserved for the graves of those killed during World War I and II, there is a grave of a Soviet prisoner of war.
The burial is a marble slab with the engraved name of the fallen “Ghwaleew Emeljan”, the date of death (08.07.1943), the Red Army star and the inscription in French: “Here rests in peace a Russian prisoner of war” (Ici repose en paix le prisonnier de guerre russe). In the headboard there is a remainder of the wooden cross (a crossbar).
According to specified data, here lies FALEEV Emelyan Dmitrievich, a native of Artemovsky district in Stalino region, born in 1903. E.D. Faleev was captured on 15.05.1942, transferred to a German camp located in 1942–1944 in the suburb of Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont near the coal mine Sainte Catherine (stalag VI K (326), camp number 108258)

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that spelling of the names, surnames and places of birth of Soviet citizens buried in Belgium may be distorted due to the fact that they are quite often written only in Flemish and French in registration books and on monuments.
We thank the Brussels-Belgian Archdiocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, the organizations of Russian compatriots and Russian foreign institutions accredited in Belgium for providing photos and their efforts to preserve the memory of the heroism of the Soviet soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War.
